Greetings!
Welcome to the Blog for the MVNU Computer Science department 2015 experience in Belize!
This group includes 5 MVNU computer science students, Doug Karl, a university friend experienced with projects in Belize, and myself, Dr. James Skon.
This year work will focus on two school related aspects. First is the building of solar power solutions for several Belize Schools. Through the generous donations of the Episcopal Church of Ohio, Harcourt Parish Episcopal Church in Gambier, and it's members, we have been about to finance solar projects for 4-5 schools. Each school will be set up with a 1000-1250 watt four panel solar array to augment their current grid electricity. Electricity is quite expensive in Belize, several times the cost in the US, and this power solution will, in addition to being environmentally friendly, save a great deal of money for the schools.
In addition are bring a quantity of Dell Latitude laptops for schools. We will be setting up new labs, repairing and updating existing labs, and teaching seminars for teachers and administrators.
The students and leader will be posting regularly on this blog. Please feel free to follow our activities, and share this link with your friends and family.
James Skon
Professor of Computer Science
