Well....The months of anticipation are over. We are indeed in Belize. We met at the airport at four yesterday morning. Two plane rides and an exceedingly tight layover later, we arrived in wonderful (if a bit muggy) 80 degree weather. After minor issues at the airport, (something about too much luggage and too small of a vehicle,) we were on our way to San Ignacio. Roughly two hours later, we mad it to the place where we will be staying for the next few weeks. After dinner and a short meeting, I called it a night around 9:00.
We took today as a day off before we start into working on the project. This morning we were up by 5:50, and were on the road by 6:30 heading to a river boat ride with a few of the other groups from MVNU. On the ride, we saw a variety of wildlife. We went 25 miles downriver to the site of an ancient Mayan city called Lamanai. We ate lunch there and then got to climb several Mayan temples. The view from the tallest of them was unbelievable. Definitely a worthwhile experience. We took the boat back to where the cars were and then drove back to San Ignacio. It was a long day packed with lots of incredible things. Looking forward to whatever tomorrow brings!
